General Description

This job provides training, education, and support to caseworkers under the child and adolescent mental health division. The Lead Caseworker will report to the Child and Adolescent Program Supervisor and will be responsible for monitoring caseloads and fidelity requirements of evidenced-based practices, tracking monthly and yearly performance goals, and onboarding/training new staff at the unit. The Lead will carry a caseload to keep up to date with knowledge and practices relevant to supporting caseworkers. The Lead must communicate effectively with youths and families to encourage engagement, participate in person-centered recovery planning, and promote safety and efficiency within their role. This position may oversee caseworkers who provide school-based mental health services and/or general child and adolescent services.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. This position reports to the Child and Adolescent Program Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below represent most of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Become certified as a Child and Adolescent Needs and Strength Assessment Superuser.
  • Become a subject matter expert within all allowable evidenced based practices utilized by child and adolescent caseworkers.
  • Guides and communicates with caseworkers regarding client's treatment, client's status change, compliance, documentation, evidenced based practices, and decisions regarding services provided by Qualified Mental Health Practitioner (QMHP-CS).
  • Conducts monthly audits to monitor quality of services being provided and documentation to ensure each client is receiving and participating in services as per their authorized level of care.
  • Maintain understanding of TRR services and UM Guidelines for all levels of care.
  • Provide training to new caseworkers and other program staff about caseworker services, processes, and policies related to the duties and services of the caseworker.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule while demonstrating effective time management to meet the needs of individuals and families served.
  • Generate innovative ideas to maintain positive morale, teamwork, and engagement within the caseworker team.
  • Assist Program Supervisor with tasks such as treatment team meetings, monthly clinical supervisions as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's, Master's preferred, degree in Behavioral Health, Psychology, Social Sciences or related behavioral field; supplemented by two (2) years of direct casework/case management experience; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Experience with trauma-informed services.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and practices.

Physical Demands

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

  • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
  • Other extreme hazards not listed above.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Must possess and maintain Qualified Mental Health Professional-Community Service (QMHP-CS) certification.
  • Must possess and maintain Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) Assessment certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) Superuser certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Become certified as a trainer, or subject matter expert, for evidenced-based practices utilized with youths within 180 days of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a TB, criminal background and drug screen.
