General Description

This job's purpose is to develop, market, and train community partners on mental health-related topics and programs. Planning and execution will include scheduling training/presentations, record keeping, and logistical support. The role is ideal for those who enjoy working with a range of participants from children to youth to young adults. Responsibilities include coordinating and developing mental health programs, courses, and presentations to meet the educational needs of the community. The Child and Adolescent Community Educator will focus efforts to meet the needs of school districts which EHN has partnerships with including El Paso ISD, Fabens ISD, and Canutillo ISD.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below represent most of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Develops and delivers educational and training materials about youth mental health topics to internal and external individuals.
  • Partner with school administrators, staff, local agencies, and other stakeholders to foster coordination of services and integration with other school and community programs. Maintain course titles, material, scripts, audio visual support, and writing/editing course descriptions.
  • Evaluates the educational needs of the community and customizes the education and training to fit community needs. Developing and designing learning solutions which includes blended approach to learning such as didactic, coaching, classroom training, role-plays, scenario-based training, action or e-learning.
  • Ability to provide presentations within a school and community setting to large and diverse audiences consisting of students, parents, school staff, and community partners.
  • Serve as the point of contact for requests of presentations and maintain an internal database to assist with specialized training, presentations, or events.
  • Conduct community outreach to organizations such as community agencies, elementary, middle, and high schools, alternative school settings, local businesses, and other human service agencies.
  • Track, compile, and report monthly statistics for grant and performance contract purposes. This includes tracking attendance, sign-in sheets, and evaluations.
  • Monitors any training conducted to stakeholders to ensure program quality, develops methods for collecting feedback from participants, and makes necessary adjustments based on evaluations.
  • Provides guidance and advocacy for continuous staff and development.
  • Develops positive working relationships with community partners and interacts with stakeholders regarding planning, coordination and requesting services.
  • Represents EHN in the local professional community and statewide; may serve on committees to do outreach.
  • Must be available to administer evening and/or weekend training or presentations as needed. Travel may occasionally be required for educational or business purposes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in education, Health or Human Services, Psychology, Social Services, Behavioral Health, Rehabilitation or related field supplemented by two (2) years of experience in education or closely related field; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and practices. Experience with trauma-informed services.

Physical Demands

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

Involves routine and frequent exposure to:

  • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
  • Other extreme hazards not listed above.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a TB, criminal background and drug screen.
