General Description

The purpose of this job is to inspect and evaluate healthcare facilities for compliance with safety regulations, health and safety codes, and building standards. This role involves assisting with inspections, documentation, and compliance monitoring to promote a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Assist in conducting safety and compliance inspections in healthcare facilities.
  • Gather and review safety policies, maintenance records, and compliance documents.
  • Support inspectors in evaluating fire safety, infection control, and emergency preparedness measures.
  • Document findings, take photographs, and help prepare inspection reports.
  • Assist in investigating complaints or incidents related to facility safety.
  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling inspections and maintaining records.
  • Help educate facility staff on safety regulations and best practices.
  • Stay informed about healthcare safety standards and assist in research tasks.
  • Conducts timely and quarterly HCS home inspections risk assessments and risk management activities associated with the home inspections to include tracking and follow up, and reporting.
  • Tracking, monitoring, and reporting of key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires an associate's degree in occupational safety, healthcare administration, public health or related field. Experience in healthcare, safety compliance, or facility management is preferred; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Experience with trauma-informed services; cognitive behavioral therapies, including DBT; and motivational therapies including the use of incentives, preferred.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principals, and practices (includes multi-faceted understanding of concepts such as community trauma, intergenerational and historical trauma, parallel processes, and universal precautions), preferred.

  • Familiarity with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), The Joint Commission, and healthcare safety regulations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and support senior inspectors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and data entry systems.

Physical Demands

Performs light to medium work that involves walking, standing, or prolonged periods of sitting at a desk. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds as needed. The ability and willingness to travel to different healthcare facilities and host home companion sites is needed.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a TB, criminal background and drug screen.
