General Description

The System Administrator is responsible for supporting and maintaining the organization's technology infrastructure, including servers, networks, security tools, software systems, and end-user devices. This role ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the IT environment and provides both proactive and reactive support for hardware and software issues. The System Administrator works closely with senior IT staff and other departments to deliver reliable, secure, and user-focused IT services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide tier 1 and tier 2 technical support to staff by diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, networking, and system-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain, configure, and monitor Windows servers and storage systems under the direction of senior IT personnel.
  • Administer Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and other identity and access management systems; manage user accounts, permissions, group policies, and email services.
  • Assist in the deployment, imaging, and configuration of desktops, laptops, mobile devices, VoIP phones, printers, and other peripheral equipment as needed.
  • Perform routine system maintenance tasks, including applying security patches, firmware updates, and software upgrades to ensure compliance and performance.
  • Monitor network and server health using system logs, alerting tools, and dashboards; respond to incidents and escalate complex issues as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to enforce endpoint protection, antivirus, and vulnerability management policies.
  • Assist with disaster recovery planning and business continuity processes, including regular testing and data backup procedures.
  • Document infrastructure changes, support procedures, configuration settings, and troubleshooting guidelines in internal knowledge bases.
  • Participate in IT initiatives and infrastructure projects, such as migrations, hardware refreshes, software deployments, and cloud integrations.
  • Provide remote and on-site support to users across multiple physical locations, including occasional travel if required.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service and professionalism when interacting with users and stakeholders.
  • Stay current on industry trends, tools, and best practices to support continuous improvement of IT services.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an IT support or junior system administration role.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft 365.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as Hyper-V or VMware is a plus.
  • Exposure to network concepts such as IP addressing, subnets, and firewalls.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new tools and technologies.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and practices (including multi-faceted understanding of concepts such as community trauma, intergenerational and historical trauma, parallel processes, and universal precautions), preferred.

Physical Demands

Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft certification is a plus.
  • Must maintain a valid state Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Must pass TB test, criminal background check, and drug screen.
