General Description

The purpose of this job is to perform advanced/social/mental health/IDD services work to include, but not limited to any of the following: assessments, serving as a liaison between clients; clients' families, and the community to obtain/provide assistance and rehabilitative/therapeutic treatment. This incumbent is responsible for providing active treatment including individual, family, group, crisis and substance abuse counseling.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Ensures individual delivery of high quality, professional counseling and psychotherapy services, crisis intervention and counseling, maintains timely and appropriate documentation, stays current on training and developments in their field, and disseminates 'best practice' information to fellow clinical staff as appropriate.
  • Submission and review of all daily EOU shift reports.
  • Must conduct and meet daily goals/requirements for patient services in the EOU including individual, group, and family therapy sessions.
  • Must directly support, provide services, and oversee temporary services provided under the Interim Recovery Counseling Services.
  • Required to monitor and evaluate individual service and revenue performance in order to meet performance and revenue generation goals for the unit.
  • Conduct patient staffing and evaluation of patient referrals into the EOU to determine mental health clearance and admission criteria.
  • Participates in staffing for walk-in clients within the Crisis unit and works closely with Crisis Specialists to ensure appropriate crisis intervention.
  • Monitoring of patient referral tracking and reporting.
  • Assists with training of staff and volunteers/students if needed.
  • Ensures quality assurance through client satisfaction surveys, CAMS, chart review, peer review and related activities to ensure quality of services.
  • Is compliant in the areas of contracts, reporting, goals and objectives, quality assurance systems, charting, billing, and documentation.
  • Must effectively document services rendered in the form of progress notes, assessments, treatment plans, discharge plans, among others within a timely manner.
  • Contributes to the development of policies and procedures supporting the delivery of programs and services.
  • Maintains compliance with supervision requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a Master's degree in Psychology, Social Sciences or related behavioral field, supplemented by one (1) year of experience; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Experience with trauma-informed services; cognitive behavioral therapies, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT); and motivational therapies including the use of incentives, preferred.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principals, and practices (includes multi-faceted understanding of concepts such as community trauma, intergenerational and historical trauma, parallel processes, and universal precautions), preferred.

Physical Demands

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

    Special Certifications and Licenses

    • Requires Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
    • Must be able to be credentialed as a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA) in the timeframe designated by EHN.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
    • Must be able to pass a TB, criminal background and drug screen.
