General Description

The purpose of this job is to serve as an LPHA Supervisor within the Behavioral Health Residential Treatment Center Unit of the TDCJ-TCOOMMI program (Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments). The role involves delivering trauma-informed behavioral health services for victims of crime, survivors, and families throughout the phases of readiness, response, and recovery. The Program Supervisor will ensure the delivery of high-quality services, including therapy, assessments, community resource linkage, and direct care services.

This position reports to the TCOOMMI Program Director and works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences while functioning independently or in a team setting.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position, as necessary.

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, counseling, disciplining, completing employee performance appraisals, and chart audits.
  • Providing clinical supervision, including orientation, training, individual and group supervision, and performance evaluation.
  • Assisting with the recruitment, hiring, and training of staff, volunteers, and students under the BHRTC program.
  • Conducting, coordinating, and facilitating training, presentations, and meetings.
  • Ensuring compliance with supervision requirements and maintaining an hourly tracking system.
  • Co-signing clinical documentation (assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge planning, etc.) when required.
  • Participating in and facilitating leadership meetings as appropriate.
  • Conducts therapy and crisis intervention to assist consumer in reaching goals and provide necessary counseling and guidance to support behavioral changes. Crisis intervention for ensuring clients' safety and referral to appropriate level of care.
  • Documents services performed for billing purposes, as appropriate, and well as therapeutic consistency.
  • Prepares Person Centered Recovery plans and reviews in order to determine therapeutic goals and maintain consistency between sessions.
  • Determines therapeutic needs and severity of symptoms for treatment and to meet regulatory requirements for the state.

  • Remains informed on legal and ethical issues related to counseling and psychiatric care and disseminating this information to staff.
  • Ensuring timely completion of requests for records.
  • Maintain compliance with all credentialling agencies, state and federal requirements related to programmatic requirements of Texas Behavioral Health Residential Treatment Center's: documentation; training; clinical operations; clinical job duties and functions; standard operating procedures.
  • Familiarity and compliance with TCOOMMI Program Guidelines and Processes (PGP) No. 01.03 - Dually Diagnosed Residential Facility.
  • Familiarity and alignment will all applicable sections of the Residential Services section under the Community Justice Assistance Divisions' (CJAD's) Standards for CSCD.
  • Engagement and oversight of continuity of care coordination for all approved client releases.
  • Timely and correct utilization and documentation in TCOOMMI WebApp electronic record.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Requires a Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
  • At least four (4) years of progressive clinical, crisis intervention, field casework, or related experience, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Experience in pragmatic family therapies, individual therapy with children and adults using cognitive behavioral techniques, marital therapy using behaviorally based approaches, and behavioral therapy targeting justice involved population is preferred.
  • Experience with trauma-informed services, cognitive behavioral therapies, and clinical modalities.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of trauma-informed theories, principles, and practices (including multi-faceted understanding of concepts such as community trauma, intergenerational and historical trauma, parallel processes, and universal precautions), preferred.

Physical Demands

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Requires Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • Must be able to be credentialed as a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA) in the time limit designated by EHN.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a TB, criminal background, and drug screen.
